AMA 40th Anniversary
Sun 15 November 2009, 18:51
On Saturday 17th October, Ms Danielle Marchand, the President, welcomed the High Commissioner for Mauritius and the Chairman of the NSW Ethnic Commission to the Liverpool Catholic Club to celebrate the club’s 40th Anniversary.

MEMBERS & GUESTS AT THE AMA'S 40TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

A crowd of about 300 enthusiastic guests, members and friends attended the Black Tie Gala Dinner Dance and enjoyed the music of Jean Furlong and Mario Commarmond. Darren Marion and 4 lovely ladies from Jalsa Creole delighted the crowd with a great floor show.

In her speech the President acknowledged the tremendous amount of work by past presidents: Rex Mouton, Regis Paul, Jean Rosette, Pierre Commarmond and Pierre Figon to name a few, which has led the path to what the AMA has become today, a solid institution respected by all.

She went on to say that when the Australian Mauritian Association was founded in October 1969, it was there to stay. The longevity and loyalty of its membership tally is proof enough of this statement.

On the occasion of its 40th anniversary and in recognition of their continuous support, the AMA has decided to grant Lifetime Membership to the following members: JEAN FABIEN, JACQUELINE STANISLAS, FRANK WILSON, MARC PIERRE and YVES HEERAMAN.

Danielle also paid tribute to one person whose achievements on the AMA committee have been second to none. This person, Pierre Figon, has been a Committee Member for 34 unbroken years made up as follows:

  • Treasurer for 10 unbroken years
  • President for 10 unbroken years and
  • currently Vice President for 14 unbroken years

  • She then presented Pierre Figon with a small token of appreciation for all his continuing dedication to the association.

This fantastic night ended on the stroke of midnight and as our guests filed out the doors, the smiling faces were a testament to a wonderful evening of good food, wine entertainment and most of all good company.
